Lesson Preparation & Templates

Routine Plan
1.       General Routine: Divide up the learning day by hour of the day & subject or activity to be taught. Each subject will be taught in the same sequence each day or every other day. (there may be exceptions)
ex. Math 9-10am, Reading 10:15-11
Certain times of day may be better for certain subjects- ex.  find times when students are most motivated and focused to study more difficult or detailed subjects
Space motivational activities or subjects through-out the day for incentive
2.       Breaks, Lunch & Free time: Include breaks and transitions between subjects to allow for physical movement, activity set-up and mental transitions.
3.       Individual activities: Under each subject, there will be different lessons or learning activities each day. ex. Subject slot: Math 9am-10am, math activity/lessons: math facts 9:00-9:05, new math lesson 9:10-9:30
Keep each lesson length around:
Preschool-1st grade activity length: 5mins-20mins (maximum)
Older elementary activity length: 10mins-25mins (maximum)
*Individual practice and work may be included in or added to above lesson length times as appropriate
4.       Plan daily procedures within a subject that students can learn and do to assist learning & lessons
ex. Social Studies- students get their textbook, pencil & social studies notebook before the lesson starts
Art- students get sketch books out and clear desk, they clean & return supplies to designated spaces after use
Try out routines & make adjustments as necessary for yourself or the students
